DrawingPhin Trust FAQ

Last updated: August 5, 2026

1. Will my drawings be used to train AI models?

No.

DrawingPhin does not use customer drawings, OCR results, FAIR data, drawing review findings, or user corrections to train AI models.

Your drawings are used to perform the task you request, such as generating FAIR characteristics, creating a ballooned drawing, producing drawing review findings, or preparing exports.

2. Do you sell my drawings or engineering data?

No.

DrawingPhin does not sell, rent, or transfer customer drawings or engineering data to third parties for their own commercial use.

3. Who owns the drawings I upload?

You do.

DrawingPhin does not claim ownership of your drawings, engineering files, FAIR data, review results, user corrections, or exported files.

DrawingPhin only receives limited permission to process those files in order to provide the service.

4. Why does DrawingPhin need to process drawings on the server?

DrawingPhin needs server-side processing for tasks such as OCR, AI drawing understanding, FAIR generation, drawing review, project history, and export generation.

This allows DrawingPhin to handle multi-page PDFs, scanned drawings, complex drawing regions, structured FAIR data, and saved project workflows more reliably than a browser-only tool.

5. How long are drawings stored?

Uploaded drawing files are deleted from DrawingPhin's storage automatically 30 days after they were last uploaded. A scheduled job runs every day and removes the ones that have expired, together with the key material that opens them. Working on a drawing again renews its 30-day window, so an active project does not expire while you are still using it.

Analysis results and project history — characteristics, FAIR data, review findings, and export records — stay with your account so you can reopen, edit, and re-export past work.

If you cancel your subscription, you can delete your files first. Anything still remaining is removed within 30 days of cancellation.

6. Can I delete my drawings?

Unconfirmed local drafts (work in progress that you haven't confirmed) live in your own browser and can be deleted from your device at any time.

Deleting saved project history yourself, from inside the app, is not available yet. Until it is, contact us and we will remove the data you identify from active systems, subject to backups, security logs, billing records, and legal retention limits.

7. How does DrawingPhin protect drawings?

DrawingPhin treats customer drawings as confidential engineering data.

Drawings are encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest. Each uploaded drawing is encrypted with its own data key, and that key is stored only in encrypted form, so access to the storage bucket alone does not produce readable drawings. Downloads use signed links that expire after 15 minutes.

DrawingPhin does not place customer drawings in public folders and does not expose them through permanent public links. Every file request is checked against the account that owns the file; a request from any other account is answered as "not found".

Files are stored and processed in the United States.

8. Can DrawingPhin staff see my drawings?

DrawingPhin systems need to process drawing content in order to generate FAIRs, drawing reviews, and exports.

The internal console our team uses to run the service shows metadata only — file name, part number, processing status, token usage, and cost. It does not display drawing images, extracted characteristics, or FAIR content.

Beyond that console, support or engineering access to project data happens only when reasonably necessary for troubleshooting, support, security, abuse prevention, legal compliance, or service operation.

9. Can I upload drawings from my customers?

Only if you have the right to do so.

Many machine shops work with customer drawings. You should confirm that your customer contract, NDA, supplier agreement, quality agreement, or internal policy allows you to use third-party software to process those drawings.

DrawingPhin does not determine whether you have the right to upload a particular drawing.

10. Can I submit the AI-generated FAIR directly to my customer?

You should review it first.

DrawingPhin is an AI-assisted software tool. It is not the final quality authority.

Before submitting any FAIR, ballooned drawing, or review report to a customer, you should verify:

  • characteristic completeness;
  • balloon numbers;
  • dimensions and tolerances;
  • GD&T;
  • datums;
  • notes;
  • hole tables and special requirements;
  • customer template requirements;
  • exported fields.

AI can save time, but the final submission should be reviewed and approved by a qualified person.

11. What happens if AI misses a dimension?

AI may miss, misread, or misunderstand drawing information.

DrawingPhin is designed to create a first-pass draft that users can review, correct, and confirm. Users should not treat AI output as automatically complete.

DrawingPhin may use confidence scores, source evidence, and review indicators to help users find areas that need attention.

12. Does DrawingPhin support AS9102?

DrawingPhin's FAIR workflow is designed around AS9102 Form 3-style characteristic extraction, ballooned drawings, and exportable inspection data.

However, different customers, OEMs, industries, and companies may require different templates or approval workflows. Users should confirm that exported FAIR data meets the specific customer requirement before submission.

13. How is DrawingPhin different from traditional QA-CAD, InspectionXpert, or DISCUS-style tools?

Traditional tools often focus on OCR, manual ballooning, and filling inspection templates.

DrawingPhin is designed to go further. It is not simply recognizing text on a drawing. It is built to understand engineering semantics and to mimic part of the way a mechanical engineer reads a manufacturing drawing.

That means DrawingPhin tries to understand not only words and numbers, but also the engineering meaning behind them, such as:

  • dimensions and tolerances;
  • GD&T;
  • datums;
  • feature relationships;
  • notes;
  • title block information;
  • FAIR characteristics;
  • drawing review findings;
  • confidence;
  • source evidence.

The goal is not just OCR. The goal is drawing intelligence.

14. Why can credits be charged before export?

Because the main cost happens during drawing processing, not only during export.

When you upload a drawing and start analysis, DrawingPhin may already use OCR, AI vision, language models, storage, and processing resources.

For that reason, credits may be estimated, reserved, or consumed before the final export step.

15. Why do complex drawings use more credits?

Complex drawings usually require more processing.

A drawing may use more credits if it has:

  • multiple pages;
  • scanned or low-quality images;
  • many dimensions;
  • many GD&T callouts;
  • multiple views;
  • dense notes;
  • complex tables;
  • many FAIR characteristics;
  • drawing review enabled.

The estimated credit cost is shown before you confirm a drawing, and nothing is charged until you confirm.

16. Is my payment information safe?

DrawingPhin uses a third-party payment processor for payments, subscriptions, invoices, and credit purchases. Card details are entered on the processor's own checkout page — DrawingPhin never receives or stores your full card number.

17. Can I buy credits without a plan?

No. You must have an active plan to buy additional credits.

The Pay-as-you-go plan (no monthly fee) counts as a plan. New users receive a one-time signup credit bonus, so they can try DrawingPhin before purchasing additional credits.

Paid subscription plans include monthly credits, and users on any plan may purchase additional credit packages when needed.

The current rules are described on the Pricing and Credits page.

18. Do you provide human drawing review services?

Not by default.

DrawingPhin is software, not a manual engineering review service.

If human review, expert checking, or professional review is offered in the future, it should be provided as a separate service with separate pricing and responsibility boundaries.

19. Will credits be refunded if processing fails?

If individual pages of a multi-page drawing fail, the credits for those pages are returned to your account automatically, in proportion to the pages that failed.

Other failures are not refunded automatically. If a job fails because of a DrawingPhin system error, contact us at drawingphin@drawingphin.com and we will review it and return the credits where the failure was on our side.

If a drawing is unsupported, damaged, too large, low quality, unreadable, or otherwise unsuitable, some credits may still be consumed because processing resources may already have been used.

The current refund and credit rules are described on the Pricing and Credits page.

20. What export formats does DrawingPhin support?

DrawingPhin currently supports:

FormatUse
Excel (.xlsx)AS9102 Form 3-style FAIR reports and customer templates
PDFDFM drawing review reports
Word (.docx)DFM drawing review reports

Additional formats (CSV, JSON) are planned for the future. Supported export formats may change over time.

21. Does DrawingPhin save my corrections?

If your plan supports project history, DrawingPhin may save reviewed project state, including:

  • AI extraction results;
  • user confirmations;
  • user corrections;
  • ignored items;
  • balloon numbering;
  • export settings.

This allows you to return to a project later, continue editing, or export again.
